SEO the VEO way
I was thinking another day what is seo and what is veo?
Hits
Well, basically if we look on the internet and the metrics most people are going crazy about HITS! One had 398 hits a day, another one had 5000 hits a month and growing. Thing they don’t understand that hits are just an value of total objects requested, for example, each graphical element requested to server like pictures, menu buttons etc will generate a hit. Of course, if browser uses some caching then it wont request the duplicate objects/items for some period of time so this will minimize hits but still - hits are total items of requests to server, be it css, js, or pictures.
Uniques
I like to monitor unique visitors which is 10x better metrics than hits. Since visitors is that matters when we speak about bottom line. More visitors = more customers. Potentialy. But there is another thing - visitor satisfaction. And this is my new thing. I measure it simply - time spent + pageviews.
Server Logs
Server logs are real treasure and of course - right tools that can analyze them properly. If your provider don’t gives you such a necesary service with your hosting. At last you should have some stats analyzer, like AWstats. IF NOT… then…
Move away.
You are working in the dark.
Two core approaches
One of the ways of use for stats is to see which keywords to which pages drives you traffic. Then you go to SERPS and check to confirm that. For example, you’re having one sub-page listed on page 4. What to do? Evaluate your current situation and potential traffic it can drive and use these search parses to link up to your site from blogs/forums/link exchanges/newsgroups. This way you will gain higher ranking quite easily. Probably 10-20 links could put you in the top 20 spot easily. Maybe even higher if links are from PR4+ pages.
Thats great.
Congratulations!
But there is one but…
Now when you are facing the very top of the listings… you have to ask yourself a question - does you page provides also very top information?
No?
Fix that!
The Veo thinking
If you have one page deling about the subject - thats great. One informative page. But why stop here, once you have this top spot in serps - why not to cement it.
How?
Providing more relevant content on that particular topic!
Example
I was getting hits from certain searches but the visitor experience usually was ended by that one page.
Puting some efforts in, I added about 30 more pages within months range.
What happened?
The visitors started to browse around and read more and longer these pages. And I added even more pages and the pageviews and now also visitors goes up. It’s because, page has quite good ranking but - adding extra pages it created a section (a directory) of related content. This all rises relevancy of that page as well increases links through internal linking. As content is relevant, visitrs reads more and more around. Meaning more pageviews and longer time spent on my site. This also means building stronger trust and authority as well chance to show my offer to them much more times and cover it from different angles. Using some simple navigation principles the return is enourmos.
Think about this, do you give all you could for your visitors?
